Cheese Steak Casserole

Here is a Dutch oven casserole that was inspired by a favorite East Coast sandwich, the Philadelphia Cheese Steak. Our Cheese Steak Casserole is a Dutch oven recipe that your friends will request over and again!

Prep time: 20 Minutes, Cook time: 30 Minutes

Ingredients:Photo of Dutch Oven Cheesteak Casserole

1 tbs. Olive Oil
1 Lb. Sirloin Steak
1 cup Onion, chopped
1 cup Green bell pepper, chopped
1 loaf Italian bread in 1” cubes
2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 cans  Evaporated milk
4 large eggs
½ tsp. Salt
½ tsp. Ground black pepper

Directions:

Slice the sirloin steak into thin 1/8" slices. In a skillet, brown the sirloin and vegetables in the olive oil and set off to the side. In a separate bowl combine evaporated milk, eggs and spices. Line the Dutch oven with parchment paper and place the bread cubes into the Dutch oven. Evenly spread the meat and vegetables over the bread. Pour egg mixture over the meat, vegetable and bread in the Dutch oven, pressing the bread with the back of a spoon to help the bread absorb the liquid. Top with mozzarella cheese.

Cover and bake at 350º for about ½ hour or until mixture has set then serve. Use 24 charcoal briquettes for the outdoor cooking of this recipe with charcoal as your fuel. Place 15 lit briquettes on top and 9 underneath your Dutch oven. You may need more coals in windy or cold weather.

Serves 6 to 8
